A few months ago I signed our family up at the local athletic club. Thinking it would be great for all of us to get some exercise in, I didn’t anticipate the outcome of meeting so many physical trainers who were anti-keto! After speaking to a few of them, I realized that they were only hearing the “trendy” version of keto and not authentic, blow-your-mind-positive keto. And after this past year of so many new products and weird trendy versions of keto coming out, well I knew that I would HAVE to write this blog and clear things up for some well meaning folks.
The following lists below are divided into their appropriate sections; authentic or trendy. I will state that these are both PARTIAL and there are many items that I’m not posting only because those items are not sold in all countries. For the most part these quite accurate, and I’m being kind when I say that the trendy list isn’t complete. Trust me, there are much more appalling items to add to that so-called, trendy “keto” list.
Authentic Keto Food List (a partial list)
- Lard/Tallow (organic/grassfed)
- Bacon, Sausage, dark meat of chicken, duck, etc (organic/grassfed)
- Avocado & Avocado oil
- Olives & Olive Oil
- Coconut (milk, oil, flour & butter)
- MCT oil
- Eggs (Free range, organic or pastured)
- Cruciferous veggies (spinach, kale, collard greens, broccoli, cabbage, etc)
- Butter (grassfed/organic)
Let me state that with all due respect to anyone caught up in any trendy version of keto, it’s really not your fault. There are so many people trying to make money by using false information that they don’t care about whether or not the info is correct, as long as they’re getting paid. But the REAL keto lifestyle is neither easy, nor is it meant to make a person lose a ton of fat within a few weeks. It is a complete LIFESTYLE change where a person slowly gets healthier. The possible improvements being: blood sugar, drastically lowered seizure or migraine attacks, improved menstrual/hormonal cycle, Ph balance and so much more. ((See authentic keto list!))
Trendy Keto Food List (a partial list)
- Heavy Whipping Cream (HWC)
- Cheeses: Including, but not limited to soft cheeses, pre-shredded cheeses, block cheese, ect.
- Excessive amounts of meat/protein (beef, chicken, pork, ect.)
- Sugar substitutes: Splenda, Equal, Sweet N Low, etc.
- Very little to no cruciferous vegetables
- Butter (any kind)
- Eggs (any kind)
- Oil (any kind)
It’s no surprise at all why so many dietitians and athletic trainers scowl at the idea of keto when all of what they’ve heard is about the trendy version! LOL and I don’t want to be bunched together with the trendy keto crowd! Nope, not for one more second do authentic keto-ers like myself want to be mistaken for folks who are willfully damaging their bodies for the sake of a few pounds.
